If you asked someone who had been on this planet for 90 years what is there secret to a long life was, most would give an answer full of wisdom, and contemplated thought. Recovery Zones Faye Patterson would say “give me that fiddle”! Faye has been playing and enjoying music for over 77 years. She got her love of music from her father who played the fiddle. At age 13 he taught her to play the guitar. Faye played not only one but multiple instruments ranging from the ukulele, which was the first instrument her father had given her, the mandolin to the guitar, and eventually the fiddle. The fiddle was a bittersweet instrument to learn. It wasn’t until her fathers passing around 1960 that she picked up the fiddle. “Music is a part of my life, and it is good for the soul” says Faye. Faye has been playing the fiddle with a group of fiddlers for 30 years; she now plays with the Blue Grass Group who play every 1st Sunday of the month at Mia and Pia’s.
Faye was born in the southwest corner of Missouri in 1923. She met her husband in grade school and eventually they married. As newlyweds, they left Missouri in 1940, looking for a better life and moved to Klamath Falls, OR. They will be celebrating their 74th anniversary this year. They had 3 wonderful children, many grandchildren, and great grandchildren (4 generations).
Playing music is not the only interest she has, “I love to exercise” says Faye. She has always been an active person and continues to be. She says “I plan on working out until I am 100 years old!” Faye has been coming to Recovery Zone Fitness Center for over 5 years. She started coming to the water aerobics classes with her niece and continues to come 3 times a week. “You can’t go wrong with water aerobics. It helps with my back pain and it’s a great fellowship. It is also a great bunch of people.” says Faye. She celebrated her 90th birthday this month, and is looking forward to many more.
Just remember....You are never too old to learn new things or change your habits!
